#CharityTuesday Roundup - May 10th

(pic I took over by the riverway before the rain knocked off the flowers)

I’m hoping for some good weather this weekend… 1) Because isn’t the saying, April showers bring May flowers? 2) It’s Avon Walk weekend! My first brush with the walk as a volunteer was in 2003 and I ended up doing the walk in Long Beach in 2007. If you’ve got some time this weekend, you should definitely cheer on the Boston walkers! They’ll be going through South Boston, downtown, Brookline, Dedham, Hyde Park, Milton, and Dorchester. It means so much to hear folks cheering you on… it’s the cure for sore feet and blisters. :) Check out their list of cheering stations. If you’re not in Boston, I still encourage you to check out the Avon site so you can see when the walk is coming to your city.

Here are some of the fundraisers and events I’ve been tweeting about… chickcheckitout:

* Thursday, May 12th * The Theater Offensive’s annual fundraiser, ClimACTS is tomorrow at Estate. I’ve been going (as a volunteer & attendee) for the past few years and it’s been an awesome time full of crazy surprises. One day I’ll raise enough money to win that walk-on role to How I Met Your Mother that they auction every year (seriously). PS - Remember, they changed their Twitter name to @OUToffensive

 * Saturday, May 14th * Longwood Symphony Orchestra concert to benefit the Asian Taskforce Against Domestic Violence. I was also able to work on a one act for one of their fundraisers a few years ago and hearing the stories from the women/men/children ATASK helps… they’re just amazing. For more info: http://bit.ly/kcy9I0

* Sunday, May 15th * Cut-a-thon at G20 Spa & Salon/EMERGE Spa & Salon (@EmergeSpaSalon) to benefit Children’s Hospital of Boston (@ChildrensBoston). Details below:

* Sunday, June 5th * Alright, looks like I’ll definitely be here for the AIDS Walk Boston (@AIDSwalkboston). Just another reason to sign up. ;) Come say hey at the registration booth.

Ongoing

 * Another reason I love to be a Zipster, Zipcar (@Zipcar / @ZipcarBoston) is donating $2 to the Pan Mass Challenge (@PanMassBike - a bike-a-thon to raise money for cancer research) for every hour you reserve their special PMC wrapped Kia Soul. I learned this week that the car is “wearing” the same shirt that the bikers sport during the ride in August. For more info on how to reserve: http://www.zipcar.com/pmc/

* A friend of South End Athletic Company (@SEACBoston) is in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) right now teaching Art and English and came across a youth soccer team that could use our help. For the month of May, SEAC will be collecting used/new sneakers to send. For more info: http://on.fb.me/ij6pY9

* Have you seen the new Warby Parker (@warbyparker) collection? I’m a huge fan and have two pairs (Zagg & Wiloughby). Not only do they have affordable glasses ($99, say whhaaat?) but for every pair you buy they donate a pair to Restoring Vision
